Using Bullinger’s King James Version Companion Bible (Kregel)
The false Cainan of the book of Luke [3:36].
The list of men below is from Genesis [5:3-30] and also found
in exact consistency in the verse of Genesis [10:22].
{Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Malalaleel, Jared, Enoch, Mathuselah,
Lamech, Noah, Shem, Arphaxad, Salah, Eber, etc}
This next list of men is from Luke [3:35-38].
{Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Malaleel, Jared, Enoch, Mathusala,
Lamech, Noe, Sem, Arphaxad, Cainan, Sala, Heber, etc}
As you can see, there is an extra name of “Cainan” inserted between the Sethite men named as “Arphaxad” and “Sala”. The significance is that this is the lineage related to the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
This is an intentional false error introduced during the translation of the Hebrew into a certain version of the Greek Septuagint scripture text by an unknown translator. When Luke wrote this book, he used a corrupted version of the Septuagint. In recent years, other earlier version of the Septuagint have been found, which DO NOT have this extra Cainan inserted in the book of Luke. However, until recently the only Septuagint texts did have this corruption.
Smith’s dictionary says of this dubious second “Cainan” –
”
1. Son of Enos, aged 70 years when he begat Mahalaleel his son.
He lived 840 years afterwards, and died aged 910. (Genesis [6:9-14])
2. Son of Arphaxad, and father of Sala, according to (Luke [3:36,37])
and usually called the second Cainan. The is nowhere named in
the Hebrew MSS.
“
But, note others, this Cainan fellow only occurs in later versions of the Septuagint. Older Septuagint copies follow the genealogy of the Book of Genesis accurately. Thent he conclusion is that both the Septuagint version that Luke used (and Luke’s original gospel) never contained Cainan as a the son of Arpachshad, and this name was erroneously inserted into both at later dates
It should also be noted that pseudepigrapha (non-Canonical) book called “book of Jubilees”, or the “book of Division” which has many conflicts with the Genesis scriptures, cites that Cainan was in the seedline of Eber.
This *could* be a source of how the corruption entered into the book of Luke when he referenced a bad copy of the Adamic ancestry down through Christ.
The point is that this false “Cainan” has been falsely brought into the Greek manuscript text.
“
Only when archaeology and Scripture Theorists were able to determine which version was the oldest, was the original discovered, but up until this present day, the book of Luke contains an extra name of Cainan.

Cainan – meaning
The verb (qana) means to acquire or create. It’s the regular verb for a
commercial purchase, which extends into the financed redemption of slaves (see Hebrew text of Nehemiah [5:8]).
The root word “Cain” is often associated with the idea of “possess/possession”.
It’s probably this line of thought that describes God as redeeming Israel from Egypt (see Hebrew text of Exodus [15:13]).
In a small minority of instances this verb may mean to create:
See Hebrew text of verses; Psalm [139:13], Deuteronomy [32:6], and Genesis [14:19].
This verb is also the one exclaimed by Eve, after giving birth to Cain, when she then says,
“
Genesis [4:1] “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived,
and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
”
Tubal-cain – meaning
The name Tubal-cain consists of two elements, the first one being identical to the name “Tubal” and the second being identical to the name “Cain”.
The word Tubal comes from the verb (yabal), meaning to carry or bring along, and also note the names of Tubal-cain’s brothers, Jabal and Jubal, were derived from this same verb.
There is a study devoted on the men of the Bible who were related to ancestral father Cain, these Cain-ites (aka Kenites) are found throughout the bible and their generations have mixed into different tribes of Israel and also into tribes of the other non-Israelite people, particularly the people who descended from the sons of Noah.
