Here is a study focused on the beast described by by the apostle John upon his witnessed visions (plural) that he was able to experience while exiled to the island of Patmos. Like Daniel, John has the assistance of an Angel to help him understand the symbology that is used to represent the foretelling meanings of the prophecy.
Before walking through the related scriptures of this subject, a brief overview of this beast.
In the book of Revelation, there is a definition of a certain beast having multiple ruling authorities. Even though this earthly beast suffers a “deadly wound” (see Revelation [13:3] ) to one of its “heads”, the wound is amazingly healed and
the same beast continues onward in existence but with a different context.
At first, this beast is of a political/commercial nature, and after experiencing a grave wounding that should cause the beast to fail or cease, the beast transitions into a new variation.
Who will perform this “healing of the political/commercial beast system?
It is the false messiah who helps heal this deadly wound of the first edition of the beast. This anti-christ, satan, arrives at the midst of the shortened 5 month period.
Satan is a man, but a very particular, and supernatural man, who comes to earth out of the pit of spiritual degradation. Satan (the old dragon, that is the serpent) is thrown out of Heaven and onto the earth after the arch-angel Michael defeats him in a heavenly battle.
At that very moment on, there is no longer a place for satan to exist in his current residing place in heaven, he is indeed cast out. He arrives to earth for he is not born of woman, and approaches into Jerusalem city.
Thanks to the workings of the false messiah, satan, this failing 1st earthly beast elaborates into a religious/commercial beast system that is then greatly embraced by the peoples of the entire world. This is the 2nd variation of the beast.
Satan will have a total of 2 1/2 months duration to serve the role of the spurious messiah, deceiving the world into a false religion system. He will magnify himself, he will declare himself the ascended center of this abominable religion that he and his angelic followers will bring into fruition.
This beast is associated to the current 2nd heaven/earth age (eon).
It would be very useful to have the understanding of the 3 earth ages that are found in the Bible’s scriptures. Certain verses of the book of Revelation are related to the 1st earth age only, and this 1st age has already expired long ago.
Other verses are related to the next 3rd heaven/earth age, and of course, there are many verses related to the existing and current 2nd age.
This beast of the previous 1st earth age had a somewhat similar, but yet noticeably different system on the earth when compared to the definition of the current 2nd earth age’s beast.

So let’s go into the scripture and see how the story of the revealed beast comes about and what happens during the shortened time span.
In each of the 2 verses below, Revelation [ 12:3 ] and [ 13:1 ], there is a reference to “heads and horns”.
Revelation verse [ 12:3 ] relates to the 1st heaven/earth age, while verse [ 13:1 ] relates to the 2nd heaven/earth age.
Notice that both of these 2 verses have a different description of “heads and horns”.
In verse [ 12:3 ], there was an existing governing system on the earth and this took place during the first earth age. During this previous first age (eon), this world wide system had 7 heads of a “red dragon”, and each of these heads had a crown in place (to rule with authority) .
NOTE that while each of the 7 “heads” of the red dragon have the 7 crowns.
The “horns” in Revelation [ 12:3 ] do not have the crowns.
The “red dragon” is satan’s role in the first earth age, and after his fall from grace, he became the serpent.
Revelation [12:3] “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold, a great red dragon, having
seven heads and
ten horns, and
seven crowns upon his heads.”
Revelation [13:1] “And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise out of the sea, having
seven heads and
ten horns, and
upon his horns ten crowns, and
upon his heads the name of blasphemy.”
[ed: In comparison, Revelation [ 13:1 ] shows a beast arising out of the earth’s “sea” (people), this world wide beast system will have 10 “horns” that have a crown, not the 7 “heads” as in Rev. [ 12:3 ]. ]
[ed: Also note that instead of the red dragon of Revelation [ 12:3 ], there is a “beast” (of the earth) in verse [ 13:1 ]. ]
[ed: With the beast of verse [ 13;1 ], each of the 7 crown-less heads carry the word “blasphemy”. This word blasphemy is referring to a contemptable or irreverent religious practice or association, to purposely go up against the true God.]
Revelation [13:3] “And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.”
[ed: 1 of these 7 “heads” (but not any “crowned” horn) of the beast will experience a “deadly” wound, but somehow/someone is able to heal that wounding.]
[ed: Revelation [17:9] has the explanation of what these “heads” really are, they are national areas.]
[ed: The old dragon [ see 13:11-12 below ] will arrive and “heal” that deadly wound of the beast of the earth, thus the healed earthly beast continues on.]
Revelation [13:11] “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”
[ed: The “dragon” is what satan had as a title in the very 1st earth age, this was before his rebellion against God. He will look and act like a great spiritual/religious man to lead the world astray with his flood of lies to deceive amazingly.]
Revelation [13:12] “And he exerciseth all the power [authority] of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.”
[ed: Below, another reference of these “kings”, while the “woman” sits upon this beast and rides among the desolation of the wilderness.]
[ed: When upon all these actions take place, just where are all of the world’s nations (kings) that govern greatly ?]
Revelation [17:3] “So he ( one of the angels of Revelation [ 17:1 ] ) carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.”
[ed: This same “woman” from Revelation [ 13:1 ] and the “beast” she rides is now being seen towards the end of the time – the “hour of temptation” – the last 5 months of the current 2nd earth age (eon). This later day dispensation of time (the current 2nd age) to be ended upon the appearance of the true Christ Jesus.
Jesus arrives and then takes complete control, with every knee bowing to Him with due respect, and He rules this world with an iron rod of discipline and correction to all who so deserve the cup of wrath. For the innocent, they are safe from this woe.]
[ed: At the time of the beast, the world has become a desolation, thanks to the void produced by the arrival of satan (the desolator), the locusts (his fallen angels), and the people who wallow in the flood of lies.
The world will then have a famine of the true Word of God (see Amos [8:11-12 ]), for the world will be a wilderness void, desolate of truth and righteousness.]
Amos [8:11] “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:”
Amos [8:12] “And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and from to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.”
[ed: A whole world covered with lies and deceptions, the Truth not found.]
Revelation [17:5] “And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
Revelation [17:6] “And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.”
[ed: What about this “drunken woman”? She is Jerusalem (see [17:18] below), that “great city”. Most people, sadly including many ignorant Christians, will be deceived by the anti-Christ’s proclamation that he is God as he works from Jerusalem.]
Revelation [17:18] “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.”
Revelation [17:15] “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.”
[ed: In Revelation [ 17:15 ] above , the “woman” is called out as a whore, one who performs intimate physical acts for the pay, for the gain. In a spiritual sense, this “whore” will align with the kings of the earth for that gain.]
[ed: Below, the attending angel speaks to John, exactly what this beast is representing.]
[ed: “whose names” are the “elect”. The whoring woman is Jerusalem, and the waters are the various peoples of the entire world.]
Revelation [17:8] “The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not,
and yet is.”
[ed: Right out of the mind and mouth of this Angel. The “pit” is the holding place for satan and his own angels who side with him in their rebellion against God. At some time soon, they will be cast out unto the earth and satan will take up the role of the instead-of-Christ, that is the anti-Christ.]
Revelation [17:9] “And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.”
[ed: Symbolically, each “mountain” is a area of some national authority.]
Revelation [17:11] “And the beast that was, and is not even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.”
[ed: The beast that came from the bottomless pit of spiritual degradation and darkness, will eventually go to death (perdition means “to perish”, “to die”.). This indicates that this “beast” (satan) is already judged to death.
This is in regards to the Revelation [ 13:11 ]. ]
Revelation [12:9] “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels (locust) were cast out with him.”
Revelation [13:11] “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”
Revelation [17:12] “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.”
[ed: While all these events and actions will occur for most of the world’s peoples, what about people who know of these prophecies — can they avoid the evil, ungodly blasphemies and idolatrous temptation that are taking place this whole time?
These people escape the hour of temptation because they understand the scriptures and how this false spurious Messiah will appear and what his actions will consist of. They can’t be fooled by satan’s deceptions his amazing miracles, or attempts to bribe people into his fold.
Satan is the false shepherd, and the Elect (chosen by God in the 1st earth age) will not be tempted by him for he is an abomination.
God knows who they are, and if they understand and choose to be of God’s children, they will be saved thanks to the Christ Jesus, the Son of God.]
Revelation [3:10] “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.”
[ed: Above, the hour mentioned is the “hour of temptation” as defined below. Only those people not deceived who stay steadfast in their true faith in God and not to do the works of satan (i.e. “mark of the beast” in the head (knowing)
and/or by their own right hand (works), will escape the wrath when the true Christ arrives at the time of the 7th Trumpet).]
Revelation [17:15] “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.”
Revelation [17:16] “And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.”
Revelation [17:17] “For God hath put in their hearts to fulfill his will, and to agree, and give kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.”
[ed: These 10 “horns” will have great disdain against the very religious people who are whoring with the anti-Christ satan. Satan’s will have the ability to heal the first edition of that beast (the world’s politically based governance), revising and restoring the single wounded head of that 1st edition beast into a viable 2nd edition of that beast (the world’s new religiously based governance).
Importantly, satan will rule from God’s favorite city, Jerusalem. This centered city will be the focused place and almost the whole world (aside from those sealed against satan’s plans and ways) will adore his rule and abide accordingly.]

Isaiah [27:1] “In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.”
Revelation [20:2] “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,”
Revelation [20:3] “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”
[ed: Back to the darkest/deepest pit of spiritual perdition goes satan until the end of the 1000 year Millennium. He has absolutely no spiritual influence on mankind during this entire period.]
